The 10th TOKYO GIRLS COLLECTION, SPRING / SUMMER 2010 One of the World’s Top Fashion Festivals Brings Real Japanese Fashion to the Planet.

Tokyo, January 15, 2010― The TOKYO GIRLS COLLECTION today announces that the 10th TOKYO GIRLS COLLECTION will be held on Saturday, March 6 2010 at Yokohama Arena, showcasing the latest fashions for Spring/Summer 2010.

TGC is built around the concept of introducing real Japanese clothes to the world. Since its inception in the summer of 2005, TGC has been held twice a year, and has become a major fashion event that has captured the imagination of stylish, fashion-conscious young women. The previous event, TGC Autumn/Winter 2009, attracted 23,100 visitors. TGC offers a unique blend of the latest fashion trends and live musical performances −performed on stage and displayed on screens, which generate significant media coverage and a tremendous amount of popular interest.

Thousands of domestic fashion brands compete in the Japanese market. Local media intensely cover trends for every conceivable fashion style, across all age categories, making Japan one of the world’s largest and most influential fashion hubs on the planet. Real fashion means clothes people wear in their daily routines. Real fashion is clothing that is popular with consumers and reflects the local cultural context. Real fashion is fashion for real people.

TGC spotlights the latest everyday fashions rather than the ‘clothing as art’ format of conventional catwalk shows. Moreover, the main target audience for TGC shows are not fashion industry professionals such as buyers and journalists, but regular female consumers.

Another unique feature of TGC is the e-commerce link. During the event, visitors to TGC can buy the clothes modeled on the runway on-the-spot by accessing the relevant websites through their mobile phones. TGC also has a growing profile online, with an increasing number of ties to Internet shopping sites and e-mail magazines.

In Japan, mobile phones are literally everywhere and nearly everyone owns one, with over 100 million phones serving a population of around 125 million(※). They are used in daily life for everything from surfing the internet and playing video games to paying bills and as transit passes. Importantly, they are also used heavily for e-commerce in Japan, particularly among young women and “Tokyo Girls”.

The 10th TGC theme is “GIRLS’ LAND”!!

TGC Spring/Summer 2010 is designed to showcase current young women’s fashion, culture and trends in Japan, hence the “GIRLS’ LAND” theme. Additionally, this 10th edition of the TOKYO GIRLS COLLECTION will see the various brands on display also appearing in retail stores on the same day. By this Spring/Summer, we expect this year’s hot seller will come from TGC.

During the main program, a broad range of clothing and styles from Tokyo will be showcased on the runway. These fashions will be presented by popular models, who regularly appear in local magazines and TV programs. Also scheduled are a variety of additional programs, such as musical performances by popular artists, charity auctions and guest appearances by high-profile celebrities that will help spotlight current trends in Japan..

Kyoto×TGC Kimono Collection done concert-style and TGC to visit Okinawa in April!!

Collection (provisional title)”. This collection was recently launched and was followed shortly by the launch of the first “sabae eyewear collection”. We believe that it is important to demonstrate the enjoyment and the importance of wearing traditional kimono. The TOKYO GIRLS COLLECTION Executive Committee selected the various styles of kimono to be presented and paid particular focus to kimono for daily use, parties and weddings.

In cooperation with the VISIT JAPAN CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS, we are also making event admission tickets available to international visitors to Japan.

Additionally, we will be holding our first-ever “TGC in Okinawa” road show in April.

At the upcoming TGC we will hold many other activities and events that will help to further enhance the growing reputation of the Japanese fashion industry and introduce the world to the exciting styles and culture coming out of Japan.. Get ready for TGC Spring/Summer 2010!
